In these challenging times, it can be hard to get used to our new ‘normal’. From one day to the other, we’re all staying at home a lot more than we usually would. Your personal space has become your gym, office, cinema and bar – and you’re probably also sharing it with your partner or family. So why not make your home a bit more colourful, personal and cozy while supporting these local Roman designers at the same time? They all have online shops and deliver their products directly to your home, so no need to go out.

Alessandro Mattei and Caterina Naglieri worked for international design and architecture firms for years, before they decided to return to Rome and start their own label. Plato Design stands for handmade lamps and home accessories in a minimal, industrial style, all produced in their small studio in east Rome. Their clever, modular lamps can be attached to each other and combined in different ways thanks to the magnets and their concrete garden gnomes will immediately put a smile on your face.

You can order pillows or pochettes directly from their Etsy store, but if you had something different in mind, just choose your favourite design and ask for custom-made products such as pillows, curtains, table cloths… whatever you want!

These paper interior accessories are true works of art: origami vases, decorative paper objects, 3D paper creations and even paper flower bouquets. Silvia Raga makes all of them by hand and sells them during lifestyle markets and through her online shop.

Tania and Renato design colourful and bold ceramic lamps, home accessories and statement necklaces that instantly put you in a good mood. As Tania put it when I visited their small workshop in Monte Mario, Rome: “Ceramics put a smile on your face. It’s a warm, natural material.” The couple creates every piece by hand and with a lot of passion. At this moment, they can ship the products that are still in stock. For other items, you might have to wait a bit longer due to the current safety measures, but you can place a pre-order.
