The dream about pasta in Milan

There are persons that have dreams but that never try to make them come true. Others are more courageous and decide to follow their dreams. Maybe because they have enough confidence that it is possible to make them come true. Or because an event in their life made them decide that is time to realize them. Or at least try to do so.
This is also the story of Marco, owner of Pasto, a place in the historical center of Milan where they make fresh pasta and prepare delicious pasta dishes on the spot. He, originally from Rome but based in Milan, decided one day to open a restaurant in which he can share his passion for good food with his guests.

The cinque vie of Milan

Pasto can be found in the center of Milan, in the middle of the neighborhood called 5Vie. It is not far from the remains of the Foro Romano that can be visited underneath the church of San Sepolcro. A neighborhood that until a few years ago was ignored by both the Milanese as well as its tourists. Only thanks to good territorial marketing it now starts to get more known by the audience. In the intimate streets in the historical center of Milan one can find shops of artisans, small bars and a variety of art galleries. The neighborhood is really worth a visit, especially when you are in the center of Milan and like to escape the crowds around the Piazza Duomo. But also when you work closeby and are looking for a good plate of fresh pasta.

Four a day

Marco, supervised by the chef and his team, elaborates four different proposals every day. Each morning they prepare the homemade pasta in their laboratory, usually three or four kinds a day. Every pasta is accompanied by different flavours. Traditional dishes like the cacio e pepe and ‘innovative’ suggestions with for example ricotta cheese and grated lime zest that make it different than the ones we are used to. The connector to this all is the freshness of the pasta and the quality of the ingredients used. They are authentic and really delicious ingredients. Because even though the dishes are simple, the flavours are definitely spectacular!

Pasto is small in size but they always find you a place to sit-down. In the worst case you have to wait a few minutes, but it will never take long as here they have decided to do only that what they are good at: preparing and serving pasta! Thus once you finished your dish, it is time to move on and start to discover the other streets in the 5Vie neighborhood, looking for the next ‘jewel’ where you can have your after lunch coffee.
